I live about a fifteen minute drive away from Meadowlands Racetrack, where they race horses and people bet on them. I’ve never been, but I’ve always imagined it to be a seedy, dirty place, with dirty old men betting their last quarter on a horse that loses. I’ve only been to one horse racing venue in my lifetime, and when we arrived it started raining and they called the races. So technically, I still have never seen a horse race. And I like it better that way. I think horse races are incredibly inhumane, forcing and animal to run for its life around a circular track and then shooting it when it is too old to keep up. Ugh.
I’ve never seen a dog race either. I own a whippet mix, and she is super fast. And I can’t imagine anyone racing her for money. That’s just terrible.
But when the ostrich races came to town? Forget it, I was IN. I was all set to go- Ostriches racing! And llamas! How hysterical is this going to be!
I was set to go until Jamie asked me why I found it offensive for horses and dogs to race for profit, but not ostriches and llamas.
Then I felt guilty. So I didn’t go see the ostriches and camels race.
What in the world does this have to do with River Horse Hipp-O-Lantern Imperial Pumpkin Ale?
Not much. The name of the beer made me think of a hippodrome, which is an old word for a race track, and so my mind wandered to that time I almost saw weird animals being jockeyed around the track, but then I backed out due to guilt.
River Horse Hipp-O-Lantern Imperial Pumpkin Ale has an original and creative label. Its aroma is fun and cinnamon- almost like something cinnamon is baking in the oven. River Horse Hipp-O-Lantern Imperial Pumpkin Ale has an excellent flavor, considering its high alcohol content. Hints of molasses and vanilla are apparent in its taste. It has a cloudy medium brown appearance, with a warm feel on the tongue due to its alcohol content. Overall A++, great beer, would drink again.
