Remember Marcy Playground? Sex and Candy? I grew up in the 90s as a teen and I remember this song very clearly, I know the words and all. I remember the video on MTV, its weird, sleepy, shitty set. This song sucks. There was so much great music circa the 90s, and then there’s this.
Luckily, Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin is pretty decent. But much like Marcy Playground’s one time hit, it’s extremely sweet. The beer has a very malty taste with a caramel kiss at the end. It tastes bitter, yet like candy, sometimes honey. Our testers agreed, this was a very good, average pumpkin beer. Especially the butterscotch aroma- that was a welcome change from other pumpkin beers. Cheers to originality!
Though Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin is enjoyable, it must be enjoyed sparingly- perhaps in a beer flight even. It’s just a lot of sweetness to take in large quantities, which is probably why it’s sold in four packs…but it’s definitely worth throwing in a mixed 6 pack.
